Ambler Farm in Wilton is offering a wide selection of both cold and warm-weather transplants, including vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. The transplants are now officially available for pre-order on Ambler Farm's official website.
Ambler Farm / Contributed photoEven with forecasts of snow prevalent for the month of February, Ambler Farm invites Wilton residents to “think spring.” In order to help prepare and plan for the warm summer days ahead, Ambler Farm is now offering a wide range of transplants for sale, including vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers.
The transplants are grown in their greenhouse from seeds in an organic, compost-based, biologically-active potting soil, and are tended to by Ambler Farm’s Director of Agriculture Jonathan Kirschner and his dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
“This is really a wonderful opportunity for the members of our community to start planning for their gardens,” said Kirschner. “We can grow more than 425 different varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers in our greenhouse that can then be transplanted into your home gardens.”
Transplants are available for pre-order now at amblerfarm.org. Ambler Farm will begin selling cold weather transplants in person at the farm in mid-April and warm weather transplants in mid-May.
“We strive to grow plants that will do well when they are put into the garden. Transplants grown this way suffer less transplant shock and show better resistance to adverse conditions such as disease and pest pressure,” said Kirschner about Ambler Farms’ offerings. “Size can be deceiving. Often a bigger plant will be root bound and take longer to adjust to transplanting than a smaller one. Don't get overexcited by very large bushy plants, they may not be the best choice for you.”
Kirschner welcomes residents to browse the farm’s selection.
Ambler Farm is also open to the public, dawn to dusk, for walking. Those visiting the premises may see Ambler Farm’s animals, which include pigs, goats, sheep, and rabbits.
