Wilton swimmers lead Lake Club to fourth at county meet
Jack Lewis of Wilton led the Lake Club Tigers swimming team at the 65th Annual Fairfield County Swim League county championships at Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club in Stamford on Aug. 10.
Lewis won three individual races in the 12-under boys division. He set a new FCSL record in the 50-meter breaststroke, finishing in 34.25 seconds to beat the time of 34.65 he had set just five days earlier. Before that, the old mark of 35.03, by Eric Ronda, has stood since 2007.
Lewis also won the 25-meter butterfly in 30.87 seconds, and the 100-meter individual medley in 1:08.88.
Lake Club finished fourth at the meet with 549 points. The Rocky Point Marlins were the county champs with 1,221 points, edging second-place Roxbury, which finished with 1,207.5 points.
Lewis was also a member of the Lake Club’s victorious 200 medley relay team, along with Ryan Abbott, Nate Snyder and Ned Thunem, in a time of 2:08.5.
Snyder, also from Wilton, was also a four-event point scorer. Swimming in the 10-under boys division, he was also second in the 25 backstroke (18.1), fourth in the 50 freestyle (33.43), and fifth in the 25 butterfly (16.41).
Julia Lewis of Wilton was also a winner, as she took first place in the 17-under girls 50 backstroke with a time of 36.13. She was also fourth in the 100 IM (1:11.76) and 13th in the 50 backstroke (35.3)
Sophie Sudano was also a big point scorer, taking second place in the 12-under girls 50 backstroke (35.15), sixth in the 50 freestyle (31.38), and seventh in the 50 butterfly (33.99).
Other impressive contributors from Wilton were:
Julia Elmasry — seventh the 87-under girls 25 breaststroke;
Justin Lewis — eighth in the 8-under boys 50 breaststroke, ninth in the 25 backstroke, tenth in the 25 butterfly;
Elizabeth Breslin — ninth in the 12-under girls 50 breaststroke, ninth in the 200 medley relay along with Isabella Fischetti;
Hannah Armstrong — 12th in the 17-under girls 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke;
Amelia Hughes — 12th in the 8-under girls 25 butterfly;
Caitlin Sullivan — 14th in the 10-under girls 25 backstroke;
Andrew Rowland — 14th in the 17-under boys 100 freestyle and 15th in the 50 backstroke;
Sean Breslin — 15th in the 14-under boys 50 breaststroke and 13th in the 50 backstroke;
Derek Benison — 16th in the 17-under boys 100 freestyle.
The week prior to counties was the FSCL water polo championships, where the Lake Club placed third in the 10-under division, third in the 13-under division, and fourth in the 17-under division.
All-Tournament players from Wilton included Nate Snyder, Jack Lewis, Elizabeth Breslin and Miles Elmasry.
Lake Club divers also competed strongly, finishing second at the FCSL diving championships. Important Wilton scorers in the boys events included Andrew Travers in the 12-under division, who took third place on the 1-meter board, and Griffin Edmonds in the 17-under division, who took fifth on the 3-meter and sixth on the 1-meter.
Female scorers included Suzy Malburg, who finished tenth in the 10-under 1-meter board, and Elena Savas, who finished sixth in the 12-under 1-meter board.
