Wilton's Andersen leads youth football team to national title

Austin Andersen of Wilton was a captain of the New Fairfield Falcons Pop Warner football team that won the Division III U14 Unlimited National Championship last Saturday with a 30-0 victory over the East Cleveland (Ohio) Chiefs at Ames Field in Michigan City, Ind.

Andersen, who played linebacker and running back for the Falcons, led the team in tackles, forced fumbles and interceptions, and scored 11 touchdowns, including a touchdown reception in the championship game.

New Fairfield finished the season a perfect 12-0.

Andersen, a ninth grader at New Canaan Country School, previously played in the Wilton Youth Football program in the Fairfield County Football League, helping the Wilton team win two FCFL titles in six seasons and reached the FCFL finals four times.

He also played for FBU Connecticut All-State Team in a national tournament after the FCFL season was finished for three years from 2013 to 2015.
