Wilton Y gymnasts nab two firsts at national meet

Five Wilton Y gymnasts competed at the 2015 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships, held June 24-27 in Wichita, Kan.

The four-day event featured more than 1,300 gymnasts from around the country.

Elizabeth Berta, competing in Level 8, earned her way to the championship final after day one of the competition. She wound up placing fifth in the country on the bars (8.7) and was 19th in the all-around (34.35). She also placed 10th on beam (8.6), 22nd on floor (8.65) and 23rd on vault (8.4).

In her Level 3 Junior division, Alyson Scheurkogel was second in the all-around (36.5), and was national champion on the bars with a score of 9.175. She also finished second on beam (9.25), sixth on floor (8.875) and eighth on vault (9.2).

In her Level 6 Junior division Donna Stepnowsky placed third in the all-around (36.475), which included a first-place finish on floor (9.25). She also was third on both the bars (9.15) and beam (9.075), and 12th on vault (9.0).

Also in the same division, Kayla Heber was third in the all-around (36.775), with fourth-place finishes on vault (9.4) and beam (9.55), a fifth place on bars (8.65) and a ninth place on floor (9.175)

Marra Woodring, in her Level 7 Junior division, was 16th in the all-around (32.85), highlighted by a fifth-place finish on beam (8.75). She was also 15th on bars (8.5), 16th on floor (8.55) and 18th on vault (8.5).
