Wilton's bid for a sweep of the three District 1 Little League championships was dashed Saturday night when Stamford National held on for a 7-6 triumph in the 11/12-year-old title game in Stamford.

Wilton's 9/10 and 10/11 teams had earlier won district titles.

The 11/12-year-old finals were suspended due to rain Friday night after two innings with Stamford National ahead, 2-0.

When play resumed Saturday, Wilton got a solo homer from Mark Sreckovic in the top of the third to close within 2-1. But Stamford answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.

Sreckovic added an RBI single in the top of the fifth for Wilton, but Stamford got the run back in the bottom of the inning to go ahead, 7-2, entering the sixth and final inning.

Wilton, the reigning 11/12-year-old division champion, showed its resolve, mounting a four-run rally on a double by Nick Condos and singles from Ryan Looney, Sreckovic, Nicky Cullinan and Kyle Phillips to make it a one-run game.

But Stamford National got the final out with Wilton runners on first and second to end the game and advance to the state sectionals.
