Wahoos open season by hosting long course meet

On Oct. 15-16, the Wilton Y Wahoos hosted the LCM Senior Invitational meet for members of its 13 and over squads — the National, Junior, Senior and Varsity teams.

Swimmers from three of the best teams in New England (Bluefish from Boston, Scarlet from Rutgers and Badger from Westchester) joined the Wahoos. Together these teams produced five Olympians in Rio.

The competition was fierce and the Wahoo swimmers from Wilton achieved numerous finishes in the top 16.

In the girls division, Emma Babashak finished eighth in the 200-meter IM and 200-meter breaststroke and ninth in the 50-meter freestyle;

Ally Bazarian placed 15th in the 200-meter IM;

Arisa Cowe finished fifth in the 100-meter butterfly;

Morgan Dill placed 16th in the 200-meter backstroke;

Leila Hastings finished sixth in the 200-meter breaststroke and ninth in the 100-meter breaststroke;

Ellen Holmquist placed fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke;

Emma Kauffeld finished eighth in the 200-meter butterfly;

Taylor Loud placed sixth in the 100-meter freestyle, 10th in the 200-meter breaststroke and 11th in the 200-meter IM;

Madeline Pennino finished 16th in the 200-meter butterfly;

Rita Roberts placed 15th in the 100-meter backstroke;

Emily Walden finished 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Other Wilton girls participating in the meet included Anika Bhagavatula, Ellie Cramer, Olivia Crisafulli, Pauline Hendricks, Julianna Hume, Anna Imrie, Carolyn Mahoney, Nina Mukhametzyanov, Caitlin Murnane, Isabel Pravia, Annabel Roth, Grace Schaller and Katie Stevenson.

In the boys division, Dylan Flanagan finished 15th in the 200-meter breaststroke;

Robby Giller placed first in the 50-meter freestyle, second in the 100-meter breaststroke, the 200-meter IM and 100-meter butterfly, third in the 200-meter backstroke and 800-meter freestyle, fourth in the 200-meter freestyle and fifth in the 200-meter butterfly;

Rory Hess finished 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke;

Jake Kealy placed third in the 100-meter backstroke, fifth in the 400-meter IM, sixth in the 200-meter breaststroke, ninth in the 200-meter freestyle and 10th in the 100-meter butterfly;

Alex Li finished 13th in the 200-meter breaststroke;

Gordon Steward placed fifth in the 100-meter freestyle, seventh in the 800-meter freestyle, 12th in the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter IM and 15th in the 400-meter IM;

Will Suchy finished sixth in the 100-meter freestyle, 12th in the 200-meter breaststroke and 16th in the 200-meter butterfly.

Jackson Dill, Maxwell Downing, Kevin Hu, Jubair Huq, Matthew Lamanna, Jack Lewis, Matthew Martin, Alexander McDonnell, Nathan Meyers, Nate Newcomer, Thomas Petrillo, Hayden Roy, Matt Schaller, Nate Snyder, James Steward, William Trentos and Christopher Zhou also swam well in the meet.

The entire Wilton Y Wahoo swim team will be hosting and participating in its annual Thanksgiving Invite from Nov. 18-20.
