Travel basketball: Wilton fifth grade boys win title

The Wilton fifth grade boys basketball team won the Fairfield County Basketball League championship, beating Orange (CT) by a score of 40-31 on Sunday in New Canaan.

The Warriors got off to a quick start with a big 3-point shot by Luke Ginsburg, putting Wilton up 12-5 after the first quarter.

The Wilton boys continued their strong play offensively behind the scoring of Grady Kaliski (13 points), Cole Siegel (10 points, 7 rebounds), Liam McKiernan (7 points, 4 steals), Jack Schwartz (7 points, 6 rebounds) and the playmaking of Ryan Luchetta (2 assists, 2 rebounds).

Defensively, the Warriors could not be stopped. Liam Murphy led the charge (2 rebounds, 2 blocks), with great efforts from Cael Dexter (2 rebounds, 1 steal), Matt Garcia (3 rebounds) and Luke Perna (2 rebounds, 1 steal).

Kudos to coaches Mike Evans and Kevin McKiernan, who who did an unbelievable job leading the boys to the championship.
