The Father and Son Plumbing Express defeated the Stone Design “by Mimmo” Red Wings, 5-4, to win the Wilton Little League AA championship.

The Express had advanced to the championship game thanks to the late-game heroics of George Papakosmas in their semifinal match-up, and this final game proved to be just as much of a nail-biter.

The Red Wings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind the strong offense of Harry Polito, Cole Stevenson, Lorenzo Caratozzolo, Levi Kaplan, Luke DiRocco and Tyler Giannantoni.

Henry Roy’s pitching was dominant in the early going but the Express finally wore him down and took a 4-3 lead behind great at bats from Henry Cherichetti, Patrick Heffernan, Everett Foote, Griffin Casey, Jason Costa, Todd Woodring, Justin Katz and William Earls, and a two-run double by Peter Reyes.

Despite Jack Costello getting on base twice in the middle innings for the Red Wings, excellent pitching and stellar defense by Everett Foote, Peter Reyes and Patrick Heffernan shut down the Red Wing offense while Everett Foote, Peter Reyes, Todd Woodring and Jack Williams extended the lead to 5-3.

The Red Wings staged a valiant comeback in the sixth inning behind the offense of Francesco Tomas, Mario Cavone and Harry Polito, but the Express held on for a hard-fought victory.
