Little League Baseball: Wilton all-stars bounce back, rout Darien American
Ryan Phillips hurled a four-hit shutout and the offense banged out 11 hits as the Wilton 12-year-old baseball all-star team bounced back from Saturday's loss to Ridgefield American with a 10-0 win over Darien American on Tuesday night in Connecticut Little League District One tournament action at the Wilton Y.
Wilton, which improved to 2-1 in pool play, hosts North Stamford tonight at 7:30 at the Wilton Y in the final game of pool play.
On Tuesday night, Phillips went five innings, allowing four hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
Wilton broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third on back-to-back solo home runs by Mark Sreckovic and Nicky Cullinan. The rally continued when Phillips singled and Cole Judelson and Matt Cipri walked to load the bases. Phillips scored on a passed ball and Judelson on an RBI single by Chris Tienken.
Wilton went up 7-0 with three runs in the fourth. Sreckovic doubled, Cullinan reached on an error and Judelson walked to load the bases. Two runs came home on an error on Scott Vollmer’s hit, and another on Cipri’s RBI double.
Wilton ended the game, due to the 10-run rule, with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, after again loading the bases as walks by Connor Wyman and Judelson were sandwiched around an error on Phillips’ hit. Two runs came home on a single by Nick Condos, and the game ended on an RBI single by Cipri.
For the game, Cipri was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and two RBI, Sreckovic was 2-for-2 with a double, home run, RBI and two runs scored, and Cullinan was 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI and two runs scored.
Getting one hit each were Brendan Connor (1-for-2), Phillips (1-for-3, walk, two runs), Condos (1-for-2, two RBI), Ryan Looney (1-for-3, double) and Tienken (1-for-2, RBI).
Judelson walked three times and scored three runs. Wyman walked and scored. Nick Kronenberg also walked. Vollmer had one RBI.
