Gymnastics: Olin wins all-around state title

Jessica Olin, an eighth grader at Middlebrook School, took the title as all-around champion in the USA Gymnastics 13-year-old division at the Level 8 state championship last weekend at Newtown High School.

She placed fifth on bars (9.15), second on beam (9.325), second on vault (9.4) and first on floor (9.4).

Olin competes for Arena Gymnastics in Stamford. With only three girls competing, and every score counting toward the team total, the team took the second place trophy.

Olin’s all-around total of 37.275 placed her third among all age groups in Level 8.

She will go on to represent Connecticut along with the seven other top level 8s as a member of the ‘Super Team’ at USA Gymnastics Region 6 Championships on May 2. This competition in Providence, R.I., will bring together the top gymnasts in each state from New York to Maine.
