Three unanswered goals to start overtime lifted the Wilton High girls lacrosse team to an 8-6 victory over New Canaan in the Class M state finals Saturday morning at Bunnell High in Stratford. It was the third state title for the Warriors and the first since 2006. Wilton had lost to New Canaan the past two seasons in the Class M finals. After regulation play ended in a 5-5 tie, third-seed Wilton received\u00a0goals from Annie Cornbrooks and Shannon Quinlan in the first three-minute overtime to go ahead 7-5. Quinlan then scored again in the second overtime to give the Warriors a three-goal lead before New Canaan got the game's final goal. Quinlan led Wilton (19-4) with three goals. Makenna Pearsall added two goals and Char Noels, Sara Dickinson and Cornbrooks had one goal apiece. Wilton got a superb performance from goalie Hannah Wiltshire, who made 18 saves, including several at the end of the second half to keep the game tied. Catherine Granito scored two goals for fifth-seed New Canaan (15-7), which outshot Wilton, 26-14. With the win, Wilton finished unbeaten against the Rams\u00a0this season. The Warriors also beat New Canaan\u00a0during the regular season and in the FCIAC semifinals.
