In its inaugural year as an official varsity program, the Wilton High girls golf team didn't have to wait too long to record its first victory. It came on Thursday, as the host Warriors had a 188 team score to defeat New Canaan (198) by 10 strokes at the Silvermine Golf Club. "The nice thing is that we got rid of the goose egg in the win column," said Wilton head coach Stuart Waack, whose team is now 1-5. "This victory was the ice-breaker." Zara Saldanha continued her strong play for Wilton, shooting a 10-over par 42 to earn medalist honors. Morgan Hickey added a 46, while Carolyn Yee had a 50 and Caroline Costello a 51. Yee, a freshman, was making her first varsity start. "It's great to get that first win," said Waack. "But even better, the girls are showing that they can compete with other teams."
