Wrestling: Warriors have three champs at JV tourney

The Wilton High wrestling team finished second at Saturday’s Southern Connecticut JV Wrestling Championships at Fairfield Ludlowe, with five finalists and three tourney champs.

Winning titles were sophomore Harry Winrow at 148 pounds, with a pin of Kevin Kumar of Greenwich (1:56) in the finals; freshman Zach Zeyher at 155 pounds, with a pin of teammate Matt Beck (5:20); and sophomore Steffen Nobles at 198, with a pin of Peter O’Sullivan of New Canaan (3:23).

Also placing second, in addition to Beck, was freshman Finn McGovern, who lost a tough 13-11 decision in the finals of the 100-pound weight class to Ludlowe’s Zachary Taylor.

Other top-four performances were turned in by sophomore Will McArdle, who was third at 141 pounds, and freshman Ethan Helman, who placed fourth at 185 pounds. Finishing sixth were sophomore Greyson Kennedy at 135 pounds and Kieran Reardon at 185.

Fairfield Warde was the team champ with 211 points, followed by Wilton (163), Stamford (162), McMahon (162), Newtown (119) and eight other teams.
