Wrestling: Rende advances to State Open

Nick Rende continued his stellar freshman season by advancing to next weekend’s State Open at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Rende placed fourth in the 106-pound weight class at the Class L state championships this past weekend at Bristol Central High School. He finished the tournment with a 3-2 record. Both losses were by one point to Colin Lindner of New Milford — a 5-4 overtime loss in the quarterfinals, and a 3-2 loss in the third-place match.

Rende improved his season record to 31-8.

Two other Warriors advanced to the second day of wrestling on Saturday.

At 126 pounds, junior Quinn Reedy lost his second consolation match to Christian Clarke of Pomperaug. He finished the season with a record of 21-16.

Freshman Zach Zeyher lost his second consolation match to  fifth-seeded Jozef Hermann of Bristol Eastern, ending the season at 6-6.
