Wrestling: Fraccaroli wins Ridgefield Challenge

Joey Fraccaroli had three pins en route to the heavyweight division championship to lead the Wilton High wrestling team at the 14th Annual Ridgefield Challenge wrestling tournament on Saturday.

He is the first Warrior to win at the Ridgefield Challenge since Connor Manley in 2002.

Fraccaroli, a senior, was 3-0 in the 285-pound bracket. He pinned Nick Photos of Amity and Chris Fischer and Greenwich, before pinning top-seeded Chris Papp of Bethel, at 1:13, in the title bout.

Fraccaroli improved his season record to 21-5.

The Warriors also got a fourth-place finish from Andrew ‘Ace’ Sakamoto at 152 pounds. He opened the day with two wins to reach the semifinals, where he lost a 4-2 decision to Victor Vieira of Bethel. He wrestled back to the third-place match with a 11-1 major decision over Brandon Poirier of Bristol Central, but lost in the consolation finals in a 4-2 decision to Jack Freiheit of Greenwich.

Sakamoto was 3-2 on the day, improving his season record to 21-9.

Going 2-2 at the tournament were Quinn Reedy at 120 pounds and Jaramy Jeffereis at 145 pounds. Ken Pokora went 1-2 at 160 pounds.

Wilton finished 12th in the team standings.
