Wilton in mix for spot in FCIAC baseball playoffs

It will be down-to-the-wire drama as FCIAC baseball teams enter the final week of the regular season.

Through Saturday's games, Wilton and 10 other teams still had realistic chances of qualifying for the eight-team conference playoffs, which start May 27. Staples, which sits first in the overall standings with a 14-2 record in FCIAC play, is the only team which has clinched a berth.

Wilton enters Monday's games with an 8-7 conference record and tied with Danbury for 11th place.

But Wilton and Danbury are just one game behind Greenwich, Fairfield Ludlowe and Ridgefield (all tied for eighth place) and two games behind New Canaan, Fairfield Warde and Westhill, which occupy spots five-seven, respectively.

Wilton begins the final week of the regular season with a road game against struggling Bassick (1-13 FCIAC) on Monday in Bridgeport. The Warriors then host Ridgefield on Wednesday and Danbury on Friday, in the regular-season finale.
