Wilton girls third, boys seventh at state ski championships

The Wilton High girls ski team finished third and the boys team was seventh at the State Open championship meet Wednesday at Mount Southington.

The Wilton girls had a team time of 307.28 seconds to finish behind Fairfield (303.11) and Staples (306.92).

Haley Howard led the Warriors with a third-place overall finish in a two-run combined time of 48.39 seconds. Phoebe Long of St. Luke's was first (47.80) and Martina Maroun of Joel Barlow was second(48.27).

Angele Poirier (19th, 50.05) and Genevieve Poirier (tied for 21st, 50.14) also finished in the top-25 overall for Wilton, which was recognized as the Conference S champions during the regular season.

Roger Hueglin was the top finisher for the Wilton boys (306.71), as he placed fourth overall in a combined time of 48.01 seconds.

Will Howard added a top-20 overall finish, taking 19th in a time of 49.56.
