The Wilton High girls swim team got back into the top 10.
One year removed from an uncharacteristic 15th-place finish, the Warriors finished eighth at the season-ending State Open meet Saturday at Yale University in New Haven.
Wilton had 226 points, 23 more than ninth-place Pomperaug.
The Warriors were one of seven FCIAC teams placing in the top-10 overall. Greenwich won the Open title with 581 points, followed by second-place New Canaan (470), third-place Darien (455), fifth-place Ridgefield (319) and sixth-place Staples (306). Fairfield Ludlowe was 10th — two spots behind Wilton — with 179 points.
Wilton's best individual finish actually came two days earlier, when Allison Courtney placed fourth in the diving competition with 442.80 points. The diving portion of the Open took place last Thursday at Middletown High School.
Emma Holmquist, Emma Kauffeld and Katrina Trentos each scored points in two individual events for Wilton at Saturday's swimming finals. Holmquist finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.11) and 16th in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.51); Kauffeld was 10th in the 500 freestyle (5:10.04) and 20th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.06); and Trentos placed 11th in the 500 freestyle (5:12.00) and 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.62).
Adding points in individual events were Brooke Hendee (21st, 1:09.75) in the 100 breaststroke and Arisa Cowe (24th, 1:01.25) in the 100 butterfly.
Wilton also scored points in all three relays. Leading the way were Morgan Dill, Taylor Loud, Holmquist and Kauffeld, who teamed to finish sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.19). Loud, Kauffeld, Emily Walden and Holmquist were ninth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.99), while Trentos, Hendee, Natalie Larsen and NoraNoel Nolan combined to place 14th in the 200 medley relay (1:54.12).
Notes: Swimmers and divers qualified for the State Open based on their results at the four state class meets.
Wilton had 117 points last season, tying E.O. Smith for 15th place.
