Wilton girls lacrosse team advances to FCIAC semifinals

Shannon Quinlan scored four goals and Sara Dickinson had three goals, and the defense did the rest as the Wilton High girls lacrosse team advanced to the FCIAC semifinals with a 12-3 win over Danbury on Friday at home.

The second-seeded Warriors (14-3) will play third-seeded New Canaan next Wednesday in the semifinals at New Canaan High School.

Laine Parson tallied two goals and Annie Cornbrooks, Laura Knapp and Cecily Freilich each had one goal.

Knapp and Cornbrooks each had two assists.

After the Warriors jumped out to a 6-1 lead, seventh-seeded Danbury (9-8) closed out the first half with a pair of goals to make it 6-3 at halftime.

The Hatters controlled possession for the first three minutes of the second half with a chance to cut the lead to two, and got off six shots, but couldn't convert. Wilton goalie Hannah Wiltshire came up with three saves, including one sequence where she turned away two shots in a matter of seconds.

Wilton then went down and extended the lead to 8-3 on a pair of goals by Dickinson, and the Warriors held Danbury scoreless in the second half, outscoring the Hatters 6-0.

Wiltshire finished the game with nine saves. The three goals were the fewest allowed in a game all season by the Warriors, and the lowest scoring output of the season for Danbury.
