Wilton girls hoop team downs Norwalk

The Norwalk Bears got out to a first-half lead against the Wilton High girls basketball team Friday night, but the Warriors rallied in the second half to defeat the hosts, 50-43, and maintain their top overall seed in the conference.

Wilton is now 15-1 overall and 13-1 in the FCIAC and has clinched a conference playoff berth.

The Bears (6-10 overall, 5-9 FCIAC) gave the Warriors all they could handle in the first half and were thinking upset. Norwalk led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and 24-20 at the half. It was a physical contest between the rival schools.

The Warriors regrouped at halftime and outscored Norwalk, 11-6, to take a 31-30 lead into the fourth quarter. Wilton then widened the lead in the final eight minutes.

Erin Cunningham led the Warriors with 15 points. Erica Meyer finished with 10 points, all coming from the foul line. Haley English had seven points and Makenna Pearsall and Cori Cannavino each contributed six points.

Shaina Osborne of Norwalk led all scorers with 20 points. Osborne also collected 14 rebounds. Asiah Knight had 10 points for the Bears.
