Wilton girls hoop plays in state semis tonight

After advancing to the state semifinals for the first time, the Wilton High girls basketball team will look to move into more uncharted territory tonight.

The Warriors will attempt to become the first team in program history to reach the state finals when they face Mercy-Middletown in a Class LL semifinal game at 7 p.m. at Jonathan Law High School in Milford.

The game will be broadcast live on www.hanradio.com and is also available as a live pay-per-view internet stream.

Wilton, the second seed, enters the game with a 23-2 record, while Mercy, the third seed, is 25-1. Mercy's only loss this season was to Capital Prep, the state's top-ranked team.

Only one Wilton basketball team has ever played in the state finals: The WHS boys basketball team lost to Middletown, 48-45, in the Class M championship game back in 1968.
