Wilton girls hoop crunches Central for 12th straight win

Only the snow delayed the Wilton High girls basketball team's 12th straight win of the season.

The Warriors routed Bridgeport Central, 71-18, at the Zeoli Field House on Wednesday night — one day after the originally scheduled game was postponed due to inclement weather.

The victory was Wilton's 12th consecutive victory, following a season-opening loss to Fairfield Ludlowe.

Wilton (12-1) scored on 12 of its 14 first-quarter possessions to lead 25-2 after the opening period. All five of Wilton’s starters scored in the first quarter.

The Warriors led 40-6 at halftime and 61-10 after three quarters, even though head coach Jaclyn Porco went to her bench after the first quarter.

Twelve Wilton players had points, led by Erin Cunningham who finished with 16 points. Freshman Emily Tuin had nine points, while Caylin Cannavino and Sarah Fitzgerald added seven points each and Erica Meyer had six points.

Cannavino led the home team with 10 rebounds. Cunningham had seven rebounds and Hannah Maatallah contributed five assists for Wilton.

Wilton is back on the court tomorrow night (Thursday) at home against the Danbury Hatters. Tip-off time is set for 7 p.m.
