Wilton field hockey team romps into state semis

Seven different players scored goals as the Wilton High field hockey team cruised into the Class M state semifinals with a 7-0 victory over 10th-seed Bethel in a quarterfinal game on Thursday in Wilton.

The second-seeded Warriors, who are the two-time defending Class M champs, will now play third-seed Daniel Hand next Tuesday or Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

Wilton, which defeated Masuk, 6-0, in the first round, has now outscored its first two state opponents by a combined 13-0.

Madison Hendry, Megan Cunningham, Jillian Mahon, Delaney Baxendale, Evelyn Caty, Emily Arrix, and Delaney Chase scored one goal apiece fot the Warriors, who improved their record to 19-2.

Wilton goalie Lizette Roman-Johnston got the shutout without having to make a save.
