Wilton crushes Ludlowe in FCIAC girls hoop quarterfinals

A 23-4 run that covered the entire second quarter got the Wilton High girls basketball team rolling towards a 73-32 pounding of eighth-seed Fairfield Ludlowe in an FCIAC quarterfinal game Saturday at Fairfield Warde.

The top-seeded Warriors (20-1) will now face fifth-seed Ridgefield (18-3) in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7:30 at Fairfield Ludlowe. Ridgefield beat fourth-seed Stamford, 68-52, in an earlier quarterfinal Saturday at Warde.

Ludlowe, which handed Wilton its only loss in the season opener back in early December, stayed close early, trailing 13-10 after one quarter.

But Wilton's dominant second-quarter led to a 35-14 advantage at halftime and put Ludlowe away. Erica Meyer, Erin Cunningham and Karen Brosko combined to score all of Wilton's points in the second period.

Meyer finished with 24 points for the Warriors, who were ahead 53-25 after three quarters. Cunningham added 18 points, while Brosko had 11 points and Christina Holmgren had nine points.
