The Wilton High boys basketball defeated host Newtown, 62-53, in the opening round of the Hoops for Heroes tournament on Friday night at Newtown High School.

The Warriors (2-1) will now face University High of Hartford in the championship game on Monday night with a chance to repeat as tournament champs for the second year in a row.

Senior co-captain Eric Houska led the Warriors with 23 points, three steals and two assists. Junior co-captain Matt Shifrin had nine points and six rebounds, while Lucas Savoie also had nine points and four rebounds and Peter Ciaccio finished with seven points and five boards.

Wilton led at 32-28 at the half.
