Wilton boys hockey makes states, plays top-seed Tuesday

Despite finishing the regular season with a 5-12-3 record, the Wilton High boys hockey team has qualified for the state tournament.

The 16th-seeded Warriors received the final spot in the Division II field and will play top-seed East Catholic in a first-round game on Tuesday night at 8 at the Champions Skating Center in Cromwell. East Catholic went 14-5-1 during the regular season.

The winner advances to meet either eighth-seed Cheshire or ninth-seed Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks in the quarterfinals on March 14.

Wilton failed to meet the first criteria, a .400 winning percentage, for states, but because only 13 teams met that standard three more teams were added (based on winning percentage) to complete the 16-team bracket.
