Wilton baseball team takes down Tigers, 12-1

Scoring 10 runs over the final three innings, the Wilton High baseball team pulled away for a 12-1 victory over host Ridgefield on Saturday afternoon.

JT Morin pitched a complete-game five-hitter for Wilton (2-0), walking one and striking out nine. Four of those strikeouts came in one inning, as two Ridgefield batters reached base (on a passed ball and a wild pitch) despite striking out.

The Warriors led just 2-1 through three innings as Morin and Ridgefield starter Wright Lindgren were both pitching well. But Lindgren left with an elbow injury after walking a batter to begin the top of the fourth and did not return.

Wilton scored three runs in the top of the fifth, with the key hit being Paul Sorbo's two-run double, to go ahead, 5-1.

Scott Shouvlin's two-run single highlighted a four-run sixth inning for Wilton, and Jason Rothstein supplied a two-run double as part of the Warriors' three-run seventh.

Ridgefield (2-1) was playing its second game of the day, after beating Bunnell, 6-3, Saturday morning.
