Nicholas Rende took first place in the 106-pound weight bracket to lead the Wilton High wrestling team at Saturday’s New Milford Tournament.
Rende, a freshman, defeated Colin Lindner of New Milford, 14-5, in the championship match to cap off a 4-0 day, improving his season record to 19-2.
Rende opened the tourney with a pin of Nate Montoya of Cheshire (52 seconds) and then won a 2-0 decision over Ethan Bravin of Hall. He edged Jack Lynch of Bethel in the semifinals, 4-2.
The Warriors finished 16th at the tourney as a team.
Three other Warriors advanced out of the first round. Jared Gladstain was 2-2 with two pins at 182 pounds, while Harrison Winrow (145 pounds) and Riley Kennedy (220) were both 1-2 with a pin.
