Warde's win officially ends Wilton boys lax team's season

The Wilton High boys lacrosse team's last chance to have a post-season ended Wednesday.

With its 8-2 win over Brien McMahon in Norwalk, Fairfield Warde clinched the eighth and final spot in the FCIAC playoffs, which begin Saturday.

A 9-8 overtime loss to Warde in its regular-season finale last Friday left Wilton with a 6-10 record. That eliminated the Warriors — the reigning Class M champs — from making the state tournament, but they still had a chance to get the eighth spot in the conference playoffs ahead of Warde.

Going into Wednesday night, Wilton was eighth in the FCIAC Power Point Standings with 610 points, 10 more than Warde. But Warde overtook the Warriors with its win over McMahon.

It is the first FCIAC playoff appearance for Warde, which is seeded seventh and will play second-seed Greenwich in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
