Track: Sheehan, Brown run to Class L state titles

The Wilton High girls indoor track and field team finished fourth at the Class L state championships, while the boys team placed eighth, on Thursday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Darien swept both the boys and girls titles.

Wilton had two state champions in individual events. Anika Sheehan was the winner of the girls 1000 meters with a time of 3:04.13, and Spencer Brown won the boys 1000 in a time of 2:33.33.

Also scoring points for the Wilton girls were Laine Parsons, who was second in the 600 meters (1:40.45); Sarah Healy, who was third in the 1600 meters (5:18.88); and Olivia Bernardini, who was sixth in the 3200 meters (11:56.12).

The only other individual point scorer for the WHS boys was Calvin Wardle, who was third in the pole vault (11’ 6”).

The Warriors won the girls 4x800 relay in a time of 9:51.89 with the team of Bernardini, Keiley Gaston, Madison Peraino and Healy; and were first in the boys 1600-meter sprint medley relay with the team of Berkeley Peterson, Marco Agudo, Peter Hermann and Brown, in a time of 3:43.03.

Wilton was also third in the girls 4x400 with the team of Peraino, Sheehan, Healy and Parsons, in a time of 4:09.37.
