The Wilton High girls swim team ended its season on Saturday with an eighth-place finish at the State Open, held at Yale University.

The effort closed out a fall where the young Warriors went 8-0 during the regular season and finished fourth at the Class L state championships.

Sophomore Ellen Holmquist had a pair of top-eight finishes to highlight the Wilton performance. She placed sixth in the 200-meter individual medley (2:07.77) and eighth in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.64), for a team-high 45 points.

Junior Taylor Loud was the next highest scorer with 32 points, as she was 10th in the 50 freestyle (24.45) and 12th in the 100 freestyle (season-best 53.24).

Also with a top-eight finish was sophomore Emma Babashak, who took eighth in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:08.08. She also took 21st in the 100 butterfly (59.83), for a total of 25 points.

Junior Arisa Cowe contributed 20 points with a 10th place in the 100 butterfly (season-best 58.85) and 22nd place in the 500 free (5:18.99).

Junior Liela Hastings placed 17th in the 200 IM (2:13.05) and 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.61) for a total of 16 points.

Senior Emily Walden ended her WHS career by qualifying for the Open in two events. She was 19th in the 500 free (5:18.15) and 24th in the 200 free (1:59.75) for a total of seven points.

Junior Katie Stevenson also added to the team total with a 23rd-place finish in the 50 free (25.05).

The Warriors had a pair of top-six finishes in the relays.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Stevenson, Morgan Dill, Holmquist and Loud was sixth in a season-best time of 1:38.58.

The 400 freestyle relay also finished sixth, as the foursome of Stevenson, Babashak, Holmquist and Loud turned in a season-best time of 3:33.75.            

Wilton also finished 20th in the 200 medley relay (1:54.21) with the team of Brooke Kelly, Hastings, Babashak and Dill.
