Staples shuts down Wilton boys lax team, 7-4

With its vaunted defense turning in another stifling effort, the Staples boys lacrosse team defeated Wilton, 7-4, on Saturday in Westport.

The Wreckers scored the game's first five goals and held Wilton scoreless until Jared Gladstein got a goal with under a minute left in the opening half.

Wilton closed to within 6-3 in the third quarter on goals from Michael Lynch and Reid Melillo. But Staples scored the first goal of the final quarter and limited the Warriors to one goal, from Charles McGovern, in the period.

Jameson Hill made nine saves for Wilton, which is now 5-7 overall. Peter Burger finished with 10 saves for Staples (10-3).
