Visiting St. Joseph pounded out 13 hits and got a strong effort on the mound by freshman Payton Doiron en route to a 9-2 win over the Wilton High softball team on Thursday in Wilton.

The Cadets improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 4-4.

Wilton's runs came courtesy of a two-run singles in the bottom of the sixth by Sage Zunda, scoring Hannah Belanger and Eliza Ward.

St. Joseph scored four in the second, two in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 8-0, and added a run in the seventh.

Doiron improved her season record to 3-2 with a complete-game three-hitter, allowing only one earned run. She struck out three and walked one.

Zunda took the loss, allowing 13 hits and nine runs (five earned) over seven innings. She struck out two and had no walks.

Zunda, Belanger and Ward all were 1-for-3 for Wilton, while Sophia Strazza walked.
Allie Petronchak was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for St. Joseph, with two hits each from Jovanna Hillman (triple), Julia Basso, Hannah Hutchinson (double), Melissa Bike (four RBI),  and Cami Heintz (double).
Note: Wilton's game at Enfield on Wednesday was suspended due to rain with Wilton up 10-3 in the top of the fourth.
