Skiing: Wilton boys improve to 12-0
The Wilton High boys skiing team remained unbeaten on the season, sweeping four opponents at the third Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League race of the season on Thursday at Mt. Southington.
The Warriors had a team time of 288.3, finishing second overall out of 12 teams on the hill.
In head-to-head competition, Wilton scored wins over Staples and small-school division opponents Farmington, Gilbert and Pomperaug.
The team improved its record to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in Class S.
Wilton had three skiers finish in the top 15 — Ryan Van Heyst (11th), Christian Theoharides (14th) and August Theoharides (15th) — out of a field of 103 skiers in the varsity race.
In a display of the team’s depth and balance, all 10 Wilton skiers in the varsity race finished in the top 37. The Warriors also had a 1-3 finish in the JV Boys race as Phil Klinga was the overall winner and Peter Vogric placed third.
The Wilton girls finished fourth out of 11 teams on the hill with a time of 317.82. In head-to-head competition they were 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Class S.
The Warriors are now 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the small-school division.
Wilton had another strong performance from Kira Howard as the freshman finished fifth overall. Julia Bonnist (17th) also placed in the top 20, out of 101 skiers in the varsity race.
