Shifrin scores 1,000th point in Wilton boys hoop win

The Wilton High boys basketball team travelled to Fairfield on Wednesday night looking to stay hot and grab its seventh win in a row.

The Warriors not only got a victory that clinched an FCIAC playoff berth, but they also had one of their players set a program benchmark.

Senior guard Matt Shifrin became the first Wilton boys player to score 1,000 career points, pouring in 30 points in the Warriors' 63-54 triumph over Fairfield Warde. Shifrin entered the game needing 29 points to reach 1,000.

After scoring 25 points in the first half, Shifrin hit the 1,000 mark late in the fourth quarter.

A quiet leader who puts his team first, Shifrin did add a little flare to his record-setting performance by nailing a half-court shot as time expired in the first half to put Wilton ahead, 31-30.

Scott Shouvlin added 18 points for Wilton (14-4 overall), and Michael Bingaman had 11 points. Shouvlin added five assists and five rebounds, while Jack Williams had a big night on the boards with 12 rebounds.
