New Englands roundup: Colbert breaks school record, Longo goes 1-2
Chris Colbert broke his own school record in the 300 meters as he placed sixth and medaled at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
Going up against the best track athletes from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, the Wilton High senior turned in a time of 35.33 to break his school mark of 35.36 set in January at the Yale Invitational.
Colbert will be representing Wilton at the New Balance National Championships at the Armory in New York City this coming weekend, where he’ll be racing against the top track athletes in the country.
Wilton High junior Travis Longo closed out an historic season by going 1-2 in the 106-pound weight class at the New England wrestling championships this past weekend in Providence, R.I
Longo, the first Wilton wrestler to qualify for New Englands since 1993, had a tough start, losing in overtime to Dante Rossetti Dracut, Mass., on a pin at the 7:58 mark.
He bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 17-1 technical fall over Landon St. Peter of Ellsworth, Me., before ending the season with a 4-2 loss to Mike Glynn Central Catholic, Mass.
Longo ended the season with a record of 36-3, winning FCIAC, Class L and State Open championships.
