On Oct. 27, Wilton residents Gregory Bauerfeld, Joe Blake, Stefan Klink, Jack McDermott and Patrick Lyon helped Norwalk River Rowing capture the first-place point total for boys high school teams at the Head of Schuylkill regatta.

NRR also came in second in the overall high school team total (boys and girls).

The Head of the Schuylkill was a two-day regatta in Philadelphia with 1,543 boats entered from 230 clubs and schools from 24 states and six countries, and was NRR’s last regatta of the fall season.

Wilton rowers powered boats responsible for five of Norwalk River’s seven medals and nine of the NRR boys’ 12-point total.

Bauerfeld took golds in the boys quad (under 17) race with 20 competitors and in the boys double (under 17) race with 25 boats, stroking both boats (the stroke is the leader of the boat the other rowers follow). Each of these golds was won convincingly , with the margins to second being 25 seconds in the quad and 30 seconds in the double.

Blake and Lyon were in the boys four plus coxswain (under 19) boat that took bronze in a race of 55 boats, while McDermott was in a four with coxswain (under 17) that won bronze in a race with 36 competitors. Klink was in a boat that took a bronze in the same 20-boat boys quad (under 17) race in which Norwalk took a gold.

Norwalk River also captured bronzes in the boys four plus coxswain (under 19) and the girls double (under 17).
