With Jack Lewis and Will Suchy leading the charge, the Wilton High boys swim team finished fourth at the Class L state championship meet Wednesday at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

The Warriors had 444 points, 24 fewer than third-place South Windsor (468). Two FCIAC teams were at the top of the standings, as New Canaan finished first with 788 points and Darien was second with 745 points.

Lewis, a sophomore, provided Wilton's best results by placing second in both the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.85) and the 100-yard backstroke (53.79).

Suchy also had two top-five finishes, taking third in the 500 freestyle (4:45.07) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.02).

Derek Benison added a third-place finish for the Warriors in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.69 seconds.

Harrison McCool also competed in a championship heat for Wilton, finishing eighth in the 500 freestyle (4:59.80).

All three Wilton relays placed in the top six, with Lewis, McCool, Charlie Owens, and Suchy third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.43); Suchy, Lewis, Christian Larsen and Benison fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:40.23); and Larsen, Benison, Owens and McCool sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.84).

Larsen won a pair of B Final heats to place ninth in both the 50 freestyle (23.10) and the 100 butterfly (54.31). Also winning B Final heats and placing ninth were Kyle Wilson in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.81) and Benison in the 100 freestyle (49.87).

Contributing points with top-24 finishes for Wilton were McCool (11th, 1:49.20) and Jake Florio (20th, 1:55.55) in the 200 freestyle; Wilson (11th, 2:03.19) in the 200 IM; Owens in the 50 freestyle (12th, 23.29) and the 100 freestyle (19th, 51.89); Sean Bergen in the diving competition (24th, 191.90 points); and Matt Martin (19th, 5:15.67) and Florio (21st, 5:23.64) in the 500 freestyle.

Notes: Eighteen teams competed at the Class L meet.

The top-24 swimmers and relays in each event at the preliminaries advanced to the finals, which had three heats (A, B and C) in all races.
