Kealy leads Wilton boys swimmers to third place at Class L meet

Tommy Kealy won two events and set a meet record, leading the Wilton High boys swim team to a third-place finish at the Class L state championship meet Wednesday night at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

The Warriors had 529.5 points to finish behind Pomperaug (818.5) and Darien (641.5). The title was Pomperaug's seventh straight in Class L and eighth consecutive state championship overall.

Kealy, a senior, set a new Class L meet record in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing first in a time of 49.83. The previous meet record of 50.37 was set in 2008. Kealy also triumphed in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.36.

Classmate Bobby McDowell had a pair of top-three finishes, placing second in the 100 backstroke (52.73) and third in the 100 butterfly (53.11).

Freshman Robby Giller was fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:49.15) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:49.88), and senior Callum Breene finished fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:01.06) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (54.45).

Another freshman, Will Suchy, placed seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:05.47) for Wilton.

McDowell, Kyle Wilson, Kealy and Derek Benison combined to finish third in the 200 medley relay (1:39.14), and Kealy, Giller, Breene and McDowell were third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.34).

Ryan Robb, Jack Abbott, Benison and Giller added a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.74).
