Hockey: Wilton girls notch first win, boys fall to John Jay
Both of the Wilton High hockey teams went out in search of their first wins on Wednesday night. The girls team was successful but the boys remained winless.
The Wilton/Norwalk girls hockey team earned its first win of the season by defeating Lauralton Hall, 5-1, at SoNo Ice House in Norwalk.
The Warriors (1-8) broke a scoreless tie with two goals in the second period and added three more in the third.
Amanda Craven led the scoring with two goals, with other goals by Shannon McEveney, Izzy Thelen and Lily Blackwell. Thelen also had an assist.
Also collecting one assist each were Elizabeth Craven, Caroline Wilson, Lily McDowell, Anna Bean and Mollly Thomas.
Brooke Jonsson got the win in goal for Wilton.
The Wilton boys hockey team began the new year with a 5-0 loss to John Jay-Cross River (N.Y.) at the Winter Garden Ice Rink in Ridgefield.
John Jay (8-3) was led by Mike Verdeschi with two goals and two assists, with other goals scored by Ellis Maloof, Sean Blaney and Will Hasapis. Taylor Isom made 18 saves in goal for the shutout.
John Jay finished the game with a 38-18 advantage in shots on goal. Chris Randolph turned away 33 shots for Wilton, which dropped to 0-6.
