Despite losing for the second time in five days on Monday, Wilton High girls tennis coach Ben Alexander was encouraged by his team's performances.

Last Thursday, the Warriors dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision at New Canaan, that came down to a third-set tiebreaker in the final match of the day.

On Monday, the Warriors (1-2) gave Staples all it could handle in losing 5-2 at home.

“We put up quite a fight. I was so proud of our girls for showing some real heart out there,” said Alexander. “We had nothing to lose. We played loose and played with confidence and it really showed.”

The Warriors got straight-set wins from Izzy Koziol at first singles and Cara Kilmartin at third singles.

Staples improved to 2-0.
