Girls tennis: Wilton advances to FCIAC semifinals

The Wilton High girls tennis team advanced to the FCIAC semifinals for the first time since 2009, after the Warriors defeated Greenwich 4-3 at home on Wednesday in the FCIAC quarterfinals.

The fourth-seeded Warriors (13-4) will play at top-seeded Fairfield Ludlowe (16-0) on Friday at 4:30. Wilton gave Ludlowe one of its closest matches of the season back on April 30 in a 4-3 loss to the Falcons at home.

Staples and Darien will meet in the other semifinal.

In Wednesday's win, Wilton got a win at first singles from Maddi Stow, 6-4, 6-2, over Greewnwich's Maddie Arnold, and swept all three doubles matches.

At first doubles, the team of Kaitlyn Zheng and Taylor Ingerman won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-5, and pulled out a 6-4 win in the second set to beat Riley Sheets and Lena Skipper.

Third doubles was also a tough win, with Leigh Culnane and Rachel Low topping Greenwich's Hannah Crasto and Melanie Murphy, 6-4, 6-4.

At second doubles, the team of Bridgett Cott and Ally Shay swept Camilla Ackerman and Sukura Yurugi, 6-3, 6-1.

Fifth-seeded Greenwich fell to 12-5 with the loss.

The Cardinals got wins at second singles from Maggie Glynn, who won in straight sets over Emma Stow; third single from Anna Daccache, who swept Sarah Steinberg; and fourth singles from Maitlyn Murphy, who won both sets from Kinsey Watson.
