Girls tennis: After first loss, Wilton bounces back, sweeps Rams
After a hard-fought 6-1 loss to Staples on Monday, the Wilton High girls tennis team bounced back in a big way on Tuesday by sweeping New Canaan 7-0.
The Warriors (3-1) got straight-set wins in the singles from Natalie Ivanov, Isabella Koziol, Jelena Sypher and Cara Kilmartin, who between them lost only eight games.
The three doubles matches were all battles. Rachel Low and Amber Li won in straight sets in a tough first doubles match, 6-4, 7-5, while Wilton won in three sets at both seconds doubles (Meghan Golden and Alix Wadehra) and third doubles (Kira Essig and Alexandra Iotzova).
In Monday’s loss at Staples, Wilton’s lone win came at second singles by Koziol, who rallied from a set down to win in three sets. The freshman is 4-0 on the season.
Kilmartin at fourth singles lost in three sets, as did Low and Li at first doubles.
