Girls swimming: Ridgefield hands Wilton first loss
Ridgefield jumped out to a 12-point lead after two events and never looked back, handing the Wilton High girls swim and dive team its first loss of the season on Monday, 104-82, at the Wilton Family Y.
The Tigers (4-0) won nine of the 11 swimming events, including 1-2 finishes in four events.
The Warriors fell to 2-1 on the season.
The Tigers opened with a 1-3 finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Julia Weiner, Lindsey Gordon, Elissa Clancy and Micaela O'Malley taking first (1:52.10) and the foursome of Annette Meyers, Jenna Leonard, Isabelle Seward and Katie Negati third (1:57.23).
Wilton’s top team of Morgan Dill, Ellen Holmquist, Emma Babashak and Taylor Loud was second (1:54.59).
The Tigers got a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle from Marcella McGuire (1:54.9) and Anna Turner (1:57.41), while for Wilton, Emma Kauffeld was third (2:00.0) and Emily Walden fourth (2:03.53).
Ridgefield continued with a win in the 200 individual medley from Gordon (2:13.04), while for Wilton, Holmquist took second (2:145.35) and Liela Hastings third (2:19.53).
Wilton had a 1-3-4 finish in the 50 freestyle with Loud (25.09), Dill (25.5) and Katie Stevenson (25.66).
McGuire won the 100 butterfly for Ridgefield (57.68), while Clancy took second (1:00.13). For Wilton, Babashak took third (1:00.48) and Arisa Cowe fourth (1:01.88).
O’Malley kept the Tigers’ win streak going with a first place in the 100 freestyle (54.21), with Hayley Snyder taking third (55.4). For Wilton, Loud placed second (54.74) and Stevenson fourth (57.37).
Emma Kauffeld got a win for the Warriors in the 500 freestyle (5:18.88), with Babashak placing third (5:27.19). Turner finished second for the Tigers (5:21.65).
In the 200 freestyle relay, Ridgefield’s team of Gordon, Snyder, McGuire and Turner was first (1:41.34), with Wilton’s Holmquist, Loud, Stevenson and Kauffeld taking second (1:43.56).
Ridgefield got a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke from Weiner (1:02.4) and O’Malley (1:03.09). Dill was third for Wilton (1:03.86) and Brooke Kelly fourth (1:07.43).
In the 100 breaststroke, it was another 1-2 finish for the Tigers, with Gordon in first (1:08.26) and Leonard in second (1:09.44). For Wilton, Holmquist finished third (1:09.68) and Hastings fourth (1:11.65).
In the 400 freestyle relay, Ridgefield was first with the team of Snyder, Turner, McGuire and O’Malley (3:45.09). The Wilton team of Stevenson, Walden, Kauffeld and Dill took second (3:52.25).
