Girls swim: Wilton gets senior-fueled win over Danbury

After reaching the .500 mark for the first time this season with a win over Danbury, the Wilton High girls swim team dipped back under with a road loss to perennial power Greenwich on Monday.

The Cardinals defeated Wilton, 103-72, leaving the Warriors with a 2-3 record.

Better times came on Senior Recognition Night last Thursday, as Wilton topped Danbury, 92-70, at the Wilton YMCA.

“We focused on the seniors,” said Wilton head coach Todd Stevens. “We swam them in a number of events and had all-senior relay teams in the 200 medley relay.”

Finishing first in individual events for the Warriors were Taylor Loud in the 200 freestyle (2:04.79), Liela Hastings in the 200 individual medley (2:28.35), Brooke Hendee in the 50 freestyle (23.72), NoraNoel Nolan in the 100 freestyle (59.86), and Megan Lafond in the 500 freestyle (6:01.08).

Second-place finishes came from Nolan in the 200 freestyle (2:08.67), Arisa Cowe in the 200 IM (2:29.96), Lily Kealy in the 100 butterfly (1:05.21), Andrea Prospect in the 500 freestyle (6:06.67), Audrey Keliehor in the 100 backstroke (1:09.96), and Kathryn Cunningham in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.17).

Lafond, Emma Holmquist, Samantha Florio and Kellyann O’Donnell teamed to place second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:06.34.

Brooke Kelly was third in both the 200 freestyle (2:08.95) and the 100 breaststroke (1:18.62) for Wilton.

Also placing third were Grace Schaller in the 200 IM (2:36.55), Lillian Chang in the 50 freestyle (28.15), Florio in the 100 freestyle (1:02.08), Pauline Hendricks in the 500 freestyle (6:11.08), and Elizabeth Cramer in the 100 backstroke (1:10.75).

Ashley Li, Hendee, Chang and Melinda Henesy combined for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:11.28).

Notes: With a substantial lead throughout the meet, Wilton swam exhibition (no points) in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
