Girls lacrosse: Warriors pull away from Newtown, 10-4

The Wilton High girls lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and used a strong defensive performance in the second half to pull away from Newtown for a 10-4 win on Tuesday at home.

The Warriors improved to 8-1, while Newtown fell to 6-2.

After Wilton's early 4-0 lead, Newtown's defense tightened up and the Nighthawks scored three straight goals before Makenna Pearsall's third goal of the first half sent the Warriors into halftime with a 5-3 lead.

Both teams played great defense in the second half, which saw Wilton extend the lead to 7-3 on goals by Sara Dickinson and Char Noels. Newtown finally scored again with 11:34 left, but that was the only goal Wilton allowed in the second half.

The Warriors closed out the game with a 3-0 run.

Pearsall finished with four goals, while Annie Cornbrooks and Noels each had two goals. Also scoring were Dickinson and Laine Parsons. Laura Knapp had an assist.

Meaghan Brophy led Newtown with two goals, with other goals by Kristie VosWinkel and Brianna Sciafani.
