Girls hockey: Wilton-Norwalk falls to Stamford, 8-2

After taking an early 1-0 lead over Stamford-Westhill, the Wilton-Norwalk girls hockey team was outscored 8-1 the rest of the way in an 8-2 loss at Terry Conners Rink in Stamford on Wednesday.

The Warriors fell to 1-4 with the loss, while Stamford (1-5) scored its first win of the season.

Shannon McEveney and Caitlyn Hocker scored the goals for Wilton, with assists by Anna Bean and Meghan Lane.

Izzy Najah finished the game with 49 saves for the Warriors, as Stamford had a 57-18 advantage in shots on goal.

Jessica Xu scored three goals to lead Stamford, with other goals by Caroline Mezias, Emily Gitlin, Stephanie Walsh, Abby Sottile, Erin McGroarty and Carlyn Gray. Mary Leydon made 16 saves in goal.
