Girls hockey: Warriors hold off West Haven, 8-7

The Wilton-Norwalk  girls hockey team shook off a sluggish start and held off West Haven for an 8-7 win on Monday afternoon at SoNo Ice House in Norwalk.

Nicole Lue had four goals and an assist to lead the Warriors, who improved their record to 9-7-1.

Emmie Arrix had two goals and two assists and Perri Blicht one goal and one assist. Elizabeth Craven also scored. Meghan Keating had three assists.

West Haven (5-10-1) was led by freshman Mya Berretta with six goals.

West Haven led 3-1 after one period and were up 4-1 early in the second period, before Wilton goals by Lue and Arrix quickly cut the lead to 4-3. The Warriors scored twice in the final minute (goals by Arrix and Craven) to take a 5-4 lead into the third period.

Berretta twice evened the game in the third period, before Lue finished off a two-on-one break with Keating to put Wilton up for good, 7-6, with just under 10 minutes to play. Blicht then took the puck the length of the ice to score and give Wilton its biggest lead, 8-6, with 7:36 left.

Berretta struck again with 6:02 to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Wilton defense and goalie Brooke Jonsson were able to shut the door the final six minutes to seal the win.
