Meghan Lane scored five goals and Anna Bean netted four goals as the Wilton-Norwalk girls hockey team scored a 9-5 win at Guilford on Saturday in East Haven.

Lane, a sophomore, scored the 50th goal of her career. She finished the day with 52 career goals.

The Warriors (4-9) led 4-2 after the first period and 8-3 after two periods.

“It was great to see a strong effort throughout the entire game, from start to finish.  It was long overdue for the girls, but they were mentally and physically in the game from the moment they got to the rink — and probably before that,” commented head coach Pete Maxfield. “Guilford is a strong skating team and very physical, but our girls never backed down and took the action to Guilford.  Hopefully, we can keep the enthusiasm up for the rest of the season.”

Next up for Wilton-Norwalk is the combined Stamford, Westhill, Staples and Trinity Catholic team on Tuesday at 6 at SoNo Icehouse in Norwalk.

Shannon McEveney had four assists in the win, while Caitlyn Hocker had three assists and Molly Thomas two assists. Adding one assist apiece were Alison Danvers, Alyssa Laychak and Grace DeCesare.

Izzy Najah played the entire game in net to get the win. Morgan Mancuso was between the pipes for Guilford.

Wilton was 2-for-6 on power plays, and killed off three of four penalties when playing a man down.

Mary Evans had two goals to lead Guilford (5-10), with other goals by Audrey Rowen, Trinity Ireland and Kate Hagness. Rowen also had two assists and Jacquie Violette had one assist.
