Trumbull held the Wilton High girls basketball team without a field goal in the first quarter, jumping out to a 14-4 lead, and went on to defeat the Warriors 59-42 on Monday night in a showdown between two of the FCIAC’s top teams in Trumbull.

Wilton (13-4; 10-3 FCIAC), which had its eight-game win streak ended, never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

The Eagles (15-1; 11-1 FCIAC) closed out the first quarter with a 6-0 run, as the Warriors had trouble finishing inside. The Wilton offense picked up in the second quarter but the Warriors couldn’t cut into the lead, as Trumbull took a 27-18 halftime lead.

The Eagles led 41-27 after three, and had their biggest lead, 53-32, with 3:40 left.

Trumbull’s Allie Palmieri led all scorers with 17 points, while Julie Keckler had 14 points and Krystina Schueler eight points.

Cassi Barbato (seven points), Meghan Lesko (five points), Aisling Maguire (four points) and Brady Lynch (four points) also scored for Trumbull.

Emily Tuin and Elizabeth Breslin led Wilton with 13 points each and Claire Gulbin had 12 points. Caroline Sweeney added three points and Zoe Rappaport had one point.
